How long is the product launch process?
For bespoke formulations, the product development process, from receiving the brief to launching the product with all the required tests, packaging sourcing, etc.. ideally takes 12 to 18 months. However, this time frame can be shortened to 8-9 months if the raw materials, packaging, and risk factors are favourable.

What are the approximate expenses for introducing a product to the market?
The cost of launching a cosmetic product is influenced by many factors, such as ingredients, development, packaging, testing, manufacturing, marketing, and more. These factors vary widely, so it is hard to estimate a budget without thorough research but the main cost drivers are the ingredients and packaging that you select.

Who will own the formula?
Using bespoke formulation services gives you the ownership of the formula, which prevents your formulator from sharing it with other brands or clients. You also have the liberty to select any manufacturer or testing house for your formula.
On the other hand, choosing White label products means that the manufacturer has the rights to the formulas, and you can only buy from them.

Can you help source the packaging?
Many of our clients have a clear idea of their preferred packaging and supplier. But if you are new to the industry, we can help you: we can either give you a list of packaging suppliers to contact and talk about your preferences and requirements, or we can find and suggest some packaging options that suit your wishes.

Is it better to have bespoke formulations developed by a contract manufacturer or a consultant chemist?
Here are some advantages and disadvantages of working with a contract manufacturer or a consultant chemist for your cosmetic products:
Contract manufacturer: A contract manufacturer is a company that produces cosmetic products for other brands, according to their specifications and requirements.
Pros:
Lower or free formulation development costs
Full-service product management from brief to launch
Better availability and prices of raw materials that they already use for other clients
Cons:
Less ownership and control of the formula, especially if it is free
Higher switching costs and commitments if you want to change manufacturer
Less ability to compare prices from different manufacturers
Higher minimum order quantities (MOQ) that may not suit your brand’s needs
Consultant chemist: A consultant chemist is a scientist who provides expert advice and guidance on cosmetic formulation and development.
Pros:
More bespoke and unique formulation that reflects your brand’s identity and vision
More availability and flexibility for meetings and involvement in the formulation process
More freedom and choice to test and manufacture your products wherever you want
Cons:
Higher upfront formulation development fees
Some aspects of launching your product may be beyond the scope of some consultants
Not all “consultant chemists” have the necessary credentials and experience to ensure the quality and safety of their products
